For Your Own Good

January is not going to be easy for you, Gemini. But if you find the grace and patience to deal with what comes, it'll give you a foundation for what comes later in 2010. Tensions build toward a Saturn-Pluto square at the end of the month. This caps off a month that may test you to the breaking point.

It may seem that there's a steady flow of frustrations and impossible-to-resolve situations. This can be tough on your nervous constitution, so do all you can to find the catharsis you need in other ways (yoga, intimate relations, creativity are some examples.) The bigger life issues may not find answers this month, which can be confounding. But it's like a Chinese finger puzzle, the more you pull on both ends, the more pain it brings.

Mercury Rx

Your ruler is retrograde in Capricorn through to the 15th. This can bring all kinds of snafus, and related to weighty matters of importance. It's hard to whip out your legendary humor in situations that even involve your very survival. It's a time to call on friends and family for support, pool your resources, and build community ties.

You may have to cover old ground that you thought was resolved. And it's unnerving to have major life issues so "up in the air." If the biggies can't be fixed, look for small ways to feel like you've made progress. Know that this too shall pass, and keep things as simple as possible.

No Easy Escape Routes

The pressure of major planets moving into cardinal signs means that we're on the edge of great social change. January brings realizations about what's no longer going to work. This could include patterns of denial or wiggling out of tight spots by turning on the charm. You can still be your light self, but you may be confronted in areas where you find it "hard to deal."

This fits nicely with your own growing need to feel rooted in substance within yourself. You can drop some of the personality habits that are just about distraction, or going in circles. You can hone in on your one true thing, and work toward mastery in areas that matter to you.

Changing Weather

You may notice a shift at mid-month when the Sun, Venus and Jupiter change signs. Jupiter goes into Pisces on the 18th, opening the doors to "think with your heart," rather than trying to figure it all out. This guides you toward the mystery of dreams, the imagination, waking dreams, serendipities and the like. You may rediscover your art, or go deeper into a spiritual quest at that time.
